Explanation of the system and our philosophy
Dental implants "Made by BEGO" incorporate top German technology at a fair price. They are a perfect combination of long life, aesthetics and reliability.
BEGO Implant Systems: Our competence
BEGO Implant Systems, now an independent subsidiary of BEGO Bremer Goldschlägerei, started the development of Semados® S-implants in 1990. At that time the focus of research and development was on the osseointegration of implants of pure titanium and the comparison of many different surface modifications. The aesthetic requirements of patients and users were not considered nearly as important as they are today.
One of the major goals initially was to integrate into a modern implant system a systems concept, which had already been implemented in the classical BEGO dental laboratory division. The goal was to offer a universal and comprehensive range of prosthetic indications. We asked our experts to design and develop a system that could cover multiple indications. This task was completed within two years and implemented in 1993 with the national introduction of the BEGO Semados® S-implants. The Semados® S-implant range now gives users a system that BEGO is continuously adapting to changes in the market and that provides you with comprehensive support in your efforts to give your patients the best possible treatment. This implant system has been developed for dentists who demand the highest degree of safety and economy. The basis of the system is the biologically compatible material pure titanium Grade 4 – scientifically and clinically proven for years. The system and all associated system components are made exclusively in Germany. The BEGO Semados® S-system is now considered one of the best documented systems in the German implantology market (documentation available on request)
The classical Semados® S-implant system is a comprehensive product manufactured using the latest technology and meeting the most rigid product safety requirements.

- Dr Dr Streckbein and Team
In 2005 a collaboration with Dr Dr Roland Streckbein, Limburg, and his Institute for Dental Implantology was started. The goal of this collaboration was to develop a second range of implants especially for immediate restoration and immediate loading and also for implantology in soft bone (D3&D4). The new BEGO Semados® RI-implant was introduced at IDS2007. The system is a root-analogue implant system with a microstructure in the neck region of the implant for improved load transfer to the crestal bone and with a condensing thread for condensing the bone in softer bone structures, such as are frequently found in the maxilla.
A range of reduced-diameter implants (mini-implants) is planned for 2008. These implants, BEGO Semados® Mini, will have the same proven thread design as the BEGO Semados® RI-implants. The implants will be available in various lengths in 2.7 mm, 2.9 mm and 3.1 mm diameters. These implants are primarily intended for edentulous patients who would like an implant-borne restoration but would prefer to avoid augmentation procedures.
In addition to our major products, implants, implant-prosthetic components, surgical instruments and drills, bone augmentation materials and wound dressings, we also offer various dental tools, disposable surgical clothing, micromotors, implant alloys, insurance services and other auxiliary equipment for implantologists and dental laboratories.

Outer design of implant body
The Semados® S-implant is a screw implant of cold-worked pure titanium Grade 4. It has a rounded foot to ensure that it is congruent with the cavity after final drilling and to avoid perforation of the sinus mucosa during sinus floor elevation procedures

The patented implant design is characterised by parallel and conical sections with the core diameter decreasing towards the apex.
The thread depth decreases successively toward the implant shoulder. With the matching drills in our Semados® S-implant system and the slightly progressive fine thread this produces defined compression in the implant site and thus good primary stability in all bone qualities. The cutting spaces in the implant body are designed precisely for what is removed by the self-tapping thread geometry. Semados® S-implants are recommended particularly for D1 to D3 bone quality and always if you as an experienced user prefer self-tapping implants. Semados® RI-implants and Semados® mini-implants are also made of cold-worked pure titanium Grade 4, but they are not self-tapping. Non-ablative form taps are used when placing these implants. All BEGO implants with internal connection have a uniform and proven internal connection. This reduces the number of required prosthetic components to a manageable number for the beginner. Semados® RI-implants are recommended particularly for D3 and D4 bone quality and whenever you as an experienced user prefer root-analogue implants with a compression thread.
Internal design: implant-abutment connection
The connection level, which is now considered the major decision-making feature for an implant system, consists of a combination of internal cone and hexagon. The hexagon acts as an integrated rotation lock and tool socket, and compared to octagonal and square systems has less rotation play because of the geometry. Chewing forces and bending torques are transmitted to the implant body through the internal cone, which largely prevents known complications such as screw loosening or damage to the internal hexagon. The cone in the Semados® implant system has been set at 90° and it allows multiple implants to be placed at angles of as much as 45° to one another. This also means secure restoration of borderline cases. The Semados® implant-prosthetic interface is considered one of the most bacteria-proof and dynamically loaded connections, as shown in a comparison study by Prof. E. J. Richter at the University of Würzburg [1] and more recent studies by H. Zipprich, an engineer at University of Frankfurt (publication available on request).
Modern surface technology
Semados® implants of the new generation have an ultra-clean microstructured titanium surface, which is manufactured in a very special chemical etching process. The purity of the surface is greater than 99% and sets the standard in the industry. The surface has a very high protein-binding capacity with a very positive influence on the healing time of the implants. The above-average secondary stability (osseointegration) with a very high bone coverage rate underlines the success of the osteoconductive Semados® implant surface.
Surgical concept
Semados® implant systems give you the option of using a two-phase implant protocol (Sub) or a single-phase implant protocol (Supra) to enable you to make use of the advantages of the different concepts that you personally consider important. All BEGO implant systems are suitable for immediate restoration protocols.
Patented easy-handling technique
Based on experience with various implant systems, our customers demanded a safe and particularly simple transfer system for removal and placement of the implant. As a result, in 1998 BEGO Implant Systems developed the patented Easy-Handling technique, which provides effective protection from contamination of the implant body and prevents transfer of germs into the bone cavity. It is also very easy to remove the placement head and instruments from the implant simultaneously. Tedious and superfluous disassembly of multiple components is no longer necessary.
Surgery tray & instruments
Because sterilisation places high demands on the corrosion resistance of the materials, special attention was paid to the instruments and the storage system when the Semados® implant systems were designed. Our sterile aluminium containers and the specially developed modular instrument sets have many advantages compared to designs made of plastic. The metal stores significantly more heat energy during the sterilisation process, which means that the tools and instruments dry much faster and more completely. The sterile container can be stored in a sterile condition for up to six months because of its filter system without requiring additional packaging such as wrapping in cloths or sealed bags. This means that your implant system is always ready for use, even for unplanned procedures – special preparation is not required. A great advantage for heavy users. All components in the surgery tray can of course be ordered separately
Perfect overview
Semados® implant systems use consistent and clear colour-coding for all components for efficient and safe use.The prosthetic concept is classified into a Sub section and a Supra section. The second level contains the "sets for dentists" for impressions. All sets for impressions in the Semados® implant systems include "Dent“ in their name to make it easy to identify the components for dental use. The third level contains "sets for dental technicians“, which always have "Tec" in the name for easy identification. This naming system virtually eliminates the possibility of confusing the components of the different systems. The consistent colour-coding of tools and components based on implant diameters helps minimise the possibility of confusing drills when preparing the implant cavity.
Prosthetic concept
Supra system
Transgingival healing and the use of spacers offer many advantages in the area of soft tissue deposition. The Supra system enables you to use these advantages in the Semados® implant systems. As an analogue to the classical superstructure following the Brånemark protocol the spacer offers many advantages for bar constructions or ball attachment anchors. A Locator® system will be available from mid-2008.
Sub-system
The Sub system is available specifically for the requirements of aesthetic implantology, in which the abutments are connected directly to the implant head. A classical spacer is not used with this prosthetic concept. The advantage: the minimal total height of the abutments of approx. 3 mm, where the gold cast-on base is measured from the prosthetic retaining screw. This enables perfect shaping of the gingival emergence point and allows restoration even where the vertical volume is very restricted. The reduced height of the abutments for front-tooth restorations with implant axes tilted forward is a particular advantage. The low height makes it possible to fabricate a crown that can be harmoniously integrated into the dental arch. Even where the gingival volume is very low, such as about 1 mm, there is still adequate space for the planned ceramic veneering. Porcelain abutments for specially demanding aesthetic restorations are also included in the system.
